Walking Tour Discover the Bijlmer!

During this walking tour a guide will lead you along the highlights of artworks in public space. This tour is of course about art but also about the place where these artworks are located: the Bijlmer. Because there is something special about the art in the Bijlmer….

Did you know that the urban planners who conceived the Bijlmer had deliberately not planned for any public works of art? They thought the Bijlmermeer was a work of art in itself; no statue or mural could add to that. Meanwhile, the neighborhood is full of beautiful, and of course less beautiful, works of art. How come? You will discover that and more during this tour.

Through the various artworks, we will learn the stories of intercultural Southeast. Fifty years of the Bijlmer: from the artless city of the future on the drawing board to the problem neighborhood in the 70s and 80s, and from the urban renewal in the 90s to the gentrification of today.

The tour is offered as a walk or bike ride. Bike rental is not included in the price.

Want to make it a complete outing? The walk can be supplemented with drinks, lunch or even a workshop.

Those worries were unnecessary it soon turned out, today it is one of the most beloved and iconic works of Southeast! Curious about the idea behind these peeing men? And what exactly the colors stand for? You’ll learn during the tour!
