Rent a barbecue

The United Nations Barbecue (U.N.B.B.Q.) is located in Nelson Mandela Park near Karspeldreef. The U.N.B.B.Q. was designed by artist duo Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla and is part of the Straat van Sculpturen (Street of Sculptures). It is a functional object and a work of art in one.

The barbecue features a grill in the shape of the United Nations logo. The creators’ philosophy is that eating together fosters unity. The artwork was created in 2009 as part of Open Source Amsterdam, an art route between Kraaiennest and Bijlmer Station, and was originally located in the K-neighborhood.

Relocated in 2011 to Bijlmer Park, it became the first sculpture for The Third Sculpture, the second edition of Straat van Sculpturen. This event was scheduled for 2012 but did not proceed due to insufficient funding.
