Workshops for adults
CBK Zuidoost offers a varying range of activities for adults. Various artists provide workshops (occasionally or as a course) in, for example, life drawing, painting, or ceramics.
Current offerings:
Life Drawing with Rossel Chaslie
Starting in January, Rossel Chaslie will once again offer a series of Life Drawing workshops. These are for people who would like to learn how to draw a model or those who wish to improve their skills. You will practice various techniques and can use the medium you prefer, from paint to charcoal.
The sessions begin on January 11 and take place twice a month. There are regular sessions of ninety minutes, and twice there is a masterclass lasting three hours. During these masterclasses, a model remains in a specific pose for longer so that you can properly study form and movement. This takes place in a small group to allow for more individual guidance and space. Participants pay €16.90 for a regular lesson and €33.90 for a masterclass.

The workshops always take place on Sundays, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM or from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (masterclass). The price includes materials, the model, and refreshments.
You can register per session. Register for the regular sessions or for the masterclass.

Building installations/sculptures from discarded materials and creating composition drawings from them…
This is what Joanneke Meester did during her residency at CBK Zuidoost in 2020 – 2021. With her project YOU ARE not HERE, she surprised passers-by with 48 installations she built on the street from found, discarded materials. The sculptures came to life against the backdrop of their surroundings. Joanneke photographed the temporary installations where she had built them and then left them behind. In her studio, she used the photos to create compositions in the form of line drawings with textual descriptions.
How do you give meaning or assign value to material that has been declared worthless?
Joanneke takes you into her world and process. She shows you and lets you experience how to give meaning to a sculpture built from ‘worthless and discarded’ material. You first begin building experimentally together with the other students; then you will work independently to create a sculpture in your own style. You will receive guidance in assigning meaning to your work. Based on your sculpture, you will learn to compose your own free line drawings in the spirit of the artist.
Each student finishes with an installation, a sustainable piezography of the installation, and a series of composition drawings.

Drawing and painting on ceramics

Drawing and painting on ceramics is what Brian Coutinho does. First, he creates a ceramic object; then the object is brought to life by applying various layers of glaze containing line drawings. These drawings are colored in and then ‘stripped’ of color again; the residue remaining from the previous processes fixes itself in the object and becomes a defining part of the work. These types of unconventional, layered processing methods are typical of Brian Coutinho’s ceramic work.
During these masterclass workshops, Brian demonstrates how the process of drawing in glaze, applying, and then removing the color takes place and what it produces. You will then get to work yourself and apply what you have learned to the assignment Brian has in store for his students.
Each student starts by making a small object from clay; this must dry and be fired. Therefore, the artist brings a ‘ceramic canvas’ for everyone—a pre-fired clay plate—on which you can immediately work with glaze. Each student finishes with an object they have worked on themselves with glaze, in Brian’s tradition. Materials are included in this workshop; very specific tools must be brought by the student.
