Experience Threads of Our Dutch Slavery Past!
CBK Zuidoost is collaborating with Draden van ons Slavernijverleden on a wonderful project, which will be carried out at the new SHEBANG premises from May through September.
Draden van het Slavernijverleden has been running throughout the Netherlands for several years. In every province, work is underway on a monumental tapestry depicting the colonial history of that specific province.
The section concerning North Holland was designed by artist Raul Balai and is also partly being created in Zuidoost.
In addition to Amsterdam, the participating cities in North Holland include Zaandam, Haarlem, Purmerend, and Hoorn. In each city, volunteers are physically working on the execution at various locations under expert supervision.
In Amsterdam, this is taking place at Framer Framed, Amstelkerk, Amsterdam Museum, NDSM Fuse, and at CBK Zuidoost.
In the SHEBANG space at Lemelerbergweg 35G, everyone is welcome to get to work on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. You can sign up for various creative sessions – (time slot 1: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM / time slot 2: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM).
If you have beautiful materials that can be incorporated into the work, please bring them along! Experience with fabric processing is not required; enthusiasm and creativity are!
The photograph was taken during a previous edition of Threads of our Dutch Slavery Past and is a design by artist Munir de Vries.
