Kunstcafé – onderdrukking en verzet
Dit Kunstcafé , tegen de achtergrond van de tentoonstelling it smells of sweat and jasmine, gaat over onderdrukking en verzet van het Indonesische volk. [scroll down for English]
Onderzoeker Samia Kotele, kunstenaar Nabila Ernada en kunstenaar Marie Civikov zorgen voor een interactieve performance rond het thema onderdrukking en verzet in koloniaal en hedendaags Indonesië. Het uitgangspunt zijn de ervaringen van Marie’s grootmoeder, een half Indonesische, half Europese vrouw die opgroeide binnen het koloniale systeem. Door haar ogen komt de dagelijkse realiteit van koloniaal geweld tot leven. Tijdens de voorstelling zorgt Alfian Emir Aditya (ook bekend als Emir Cello) voor muzikale intermezzo’s die aansluiten bij de thema’s dekolonialiteit en verzet.
Onder leiding van Dewi Sofia worden verhalen verteld over de onderdrukking van vrouwen en hun verzet in relatie tot de koloniale economie. Het gaat ook over het groeiende verzet tegen de manier waarop ze als arbeiders worden onderdrukt en hun verlangen naar emancipatie als vrouwen. Vanuit dit dekoloniale feministische perspectief wordt ingegaan op de voortdurende verschuivingen in de positie van Indonesische vrouwen en de strijd voor echte bevrijding.

This Kunstcafé, set against the backdrop of the exhibition it smells of sweat and jasmine, is about the oppression and resistance of the Indonesian people.
This conversation invites researcher Samia Kotele, artist Nabila Ernada, and artist Marie Civikov for an interactive performance focusing on the topic of oppression and resistance in colonial and contemporary Indonesia. The starting point is the experiences of Marie’s grandmother, a half-Indonesian, half-European woman who grew up within the colonial system. Through her eyes, the everyday realities of colonial violence come to life. Within the performance, Alfian Emir Aditya contributes musical interludes responding to the themes of decoloniality and resistance.
Moderated by Dewi Sofia, the session weaves in and out of stories of women’s oppression and resistance in relation to the colonial economy, as well as the burgeoning resistance against both their oppression as workers and a desire for emancipation as women. Through this decolonial feminist lens, the session delves into the continuing shifts in Indonesian women’s agency, and the fight for true liberation.
