Threads of our Dutch Slavery Past at Shebang

CBK Zuidoost is collaborating with Threads of our Slavery Past on a beautiful project, which is being carried out in Shebang’s new premises. Threads of our Slavery Past has been running throughout the Netherlands for several years. In every province, work is being done in various locations on a monumental tapestry—the section in North Holland was designed by artist Raul Balai.

The North Holland cities participating are Amsterdam, Zaandam, Haarlem, Purmerend, and Hoorn. In each city, volunteers work physically on the execution at various locations under expert supervision. In Amsterdam, this takes place at Framer Framed, Amstelkerk, Amsterdam Museum, NDSM Fuse, and CBK Zuidoost, in Shebang’s new premises at Lemelerbergweg 35G.

Individuals who wish to contribute to the project can already register on the Threads of our Slavery Past website. It will soon be clarified how and when work on the tapestry will commence. At that time, people will also be able to provide materials for the execution.
