With the Local Heroes series, CBK Zuidoost stimulates the local art scene. This season, three local artists present their work.
Dagmar de Kok (1977) creates drawings and ceramic works. She draws inspiration from a combination of visual stimuli from everyday life and a historical awareness nourished by study, literature, and the visual arts, reflecting on these with humor. De Kok presents drawings and sculptures created during a six-month artist-in-residence in South Africa. The works are inspired by (South) African folk tales.
Oscar Franklin (1960) works with found materials. On the street, his gaze is always directed at the ground, searching for interesting shapes, fabrics, and components. Bicycle and car tires are among his favorites. From these, he creates various animal figures in different sizes. As a child in Saint Vincent, he used a (rubber) slingshot to go ‘hunting.’ Now, he creates animals using the same material. Franklin presents a jungle of found materials and animals.
Charlotte Mumm (1980) draws, paints, and creates three-dimensional work. She has developed her own visual language, navigating the space between figuration and abstraction. The abstraction in her art allows her work to be viewed in many different ways. Nature, both flora and fauna, serves as an inspiration for her, and its forms can be found throughout her work. Mumm presents recent work, part of which was created during a residency in Wiesbaden, Germany.
