Local Heroes 2019

Met de tentoonstellingsserie Local Heroes stimuleert CBK Zuidoost het lokale kunstklimaat in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Het kunstenveld in de Bijlmer is aan het veranderen. Steeds meer kunstenaars vinden hun weg naar deze kant van de stad. Ook de komende jaren zal dit aantal groeien. Forse bouwprojecten van nieuwe woningen worden in de nabije toekomst gerealiseerd. Oude kantoorpanden moeten daarvoor het veld ruimen. Voordat deze panden worden gesloopt, staan ze tijdelijk leeg. Juist op deze tijdelijke plekken ontstaan nieuwe kansen voor kunstenaars waardoor het culturele ecosysteem zich zal blijven uitbreiden.

In deze editie van Local Heroes presenteren zes kunstenaars  die met hun atelier gevestigd zijn in Amsterdam Zuidoost hun werk.

With the exhibition Local Heroes, CBK Southeast aims to stimulate the local art scene in Amsterdam Southeast. The presence of art in the Bijlmer is changing – more and more artists are finding their way to this side of the city, and in the coming years their numbers will certainly continue to swell. Extensive new housing construction projects will be completed in the near future and, to make space for them, old office buildings will have to be cleared. For a while, before these buildings are finally demolished, they will be temporarily vacant. These temporary spaces are precisely the places where new opportunities for artists will open up and this will stimulate continued expansion of the cultural ecosystem.
In this edition of Local Heroes, six artists who have their studios in Amsterdam Southeast will present their work.
